I am a candle of the Lord, so are you. Our purpose is to give light—His light. The flame of the Lord shines in places darkened by despair. It enlightens minds overshadowed by doubt and fear. It glows with wisdom that draws family, friends, and strangers alike. During dark storms of their lives, they seek the Light shining within us. When the winds of confusion clouds truth and reality, the Flame grows and overpower the darkness. When the flame begins to flicker, a gentle spirit breathes life into us giving light in places forgotten by love and laughter. The radiance of the Flame offers encouragement, cheer, and joy. Peace and hope illuminate direction from the guiding beams of hope drawing the weary to the source of light. The light within us is not our own. We cannot ignite our own flame. Our Creator is a consuming fire. It is He who inflames us. We are darkness without Him, but in Him we are light. The light never fails its purpose.
Matthew 5 (MSG)
14-16 “Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.
