Flowers & Verses 4: Patriotism

Almanac.com says the nasturtium represents patriotism. Patriotism means devoted love for ones country/in support and defense of one’s country. This is my patriotic tribute to America for Independence Day.

Nasturtiums

Almanac.com also says that the nasturtium prefers poor soils and they do not need fertilizers. In fact, Almanac says fertile soil produces more foliage than flowers.

It think the troubles we are seeing right now in our country and around the world are a result of good seeds planted in poor soil. The Lord is raising up flowers or praying citizens who are determined to bloom for the Kingdom of God.

Isn’t it wonderful to live in a country where we are free to pray and worship? We keep hearing the phrase “Make America Great Again.” I declare to you that America has not lost it’s greatness. We have lost the reason for our hope. Our founding fathers didn’t exclude the Lord from its determination to be a free nation. I believe that when we determine to be one nation under God, we will remain free to live, serve, and worship.

Pray for America
by C. Mosley

This is a call to prayer for America. Call on the Lord and we shall be saved.

I am a Christian American and I will call on the Lord, for He is worthy to be praised!

Psalm 85: 7 – 13

Lord, show us your love,
    and save us.

I will listen to God the Lord.
He has ordered peace for those who worship him.
Don’t let them go back to foolishness.
God will soon save those who respect Him,
and His glory will be seen in our land.
10 Love and truth belong to God’s people;
goodness and peace will be theirs.
11 On earth people will be loyal to God,
and God’s goodness will shine down from heaven.
12 The Lord will give His goodness,
and the land will give its crops.
13 Goodness will go before God
and prepare the way for Him.

Uncluttered Part 11: Rest

Do you have an idea but are having difficulty getting it off the ground? Are you having trouble connecting with your teenager? Are you having difficulty finishing a project that needs that special something but it is eluding you? Stop toiling over what is troubling you  and go to bed or take a nap.

Would you believe that when we rest and sleep we could have the most inspiring moments of our lives? I recently watched a video about dreams that inspire and learned that the idea for a sewing machine needle came in a dream. There are famous books, poetry, movies, and scientific discoveries that were inspired from dreams. The bible speaks of dreams that have saved nations and lives.

If you are a dreamer, start being intentional about writing them down. You may discover something wonderful about yourself and the world around you from your night visions. You may learn about the next move to make or not to make. You may even discover the key to your destiny.

Resting from your labors long enough to sleep could lead you to the answer you’ve been waiting for.

Night Visions

Job 33:14-16 Living Bible (TLB)

14 “For God speaks again and again, 15 in dreams, in visions of the night when deep sleep falls on men as they lie on their beds. 16 He opens their ears in times like that and gives them wisdom and instruction

Flowers & Verses 3: Begin Again

Almanac.com says the yellow rose symbolizes joy, friendship, and the promise of a new beginning. Everyday is a new beginning, but we often lack joy, valuable friendships, and we long to truly have a fresh start.

God offers us joy, friendship, and a new beginning every day because He love us. He says to us through Jeremiah 31 that He loves us with an everlasting love. He promises to make His people happy again and give us a fresh start.

Today walk in confidence that your fresh start began when you woke up and the God who loves you deeply is with you every moment.

Come to Love

Jeremiah 31

Help Me Stand Tall

Grief is a strange inspiration, but today it is just that.

Tomorrow we will say “until we meet again” to a very sweet and loving family member who left us very suddenly. As I think about how my family is grieving, I am also thinking of the families in the UK where terror is falling like rain on them. It would be easy to lock ourselves away and give up if we succumb to sorrow, fear, and despair.

Instead, let’s choose to stand tall. To you who are grieving and are afraid of the terror, I pray that you will find comfort in this prayer that helped me through a dark time in my life. I pray that you will find the courage to stand tall.

In times of trials and testing,
Lord, help me stand tall.
When the way seems cloudy and my enemy's infesting,
Help me stand tall.
When I cannot seem to find victory and I feel despair,
Help me stand tall.
When I fall on my face beneath my burdens and care,
Help me stand tall.
When my focus grows dim and my enemy says, "Give in",
Help me stand tall.
When my heart is heavy and I feel discouraged within,
Help me stand tall.

Lord, help me stand on Your truth.
That you are with me forever.
That I am not alone.
That nothing can separate me from Your love.
And You are not done.

Help me stand tall.
Isaiah 41 10

Flowers & Verses 2: You are Free to Live

The blue iris is said to symbolize hope. The butterfly is also a symbol of hope. Many people miss out on a wonderful future because they are stuck in the past.

Free to Live

Don’t let your past hurts, mistakes, and failures stifle your joy today. Forgive yourself and others so you can enjoy the gift of a hope-filled life.

Romans 6:6 (NIRV)
We know that what we used to be was nailed to the cross with Him.

Uncluttered Part 10: Focus on What Matters

Life is full of missed opportunities. Some of those mishaps cannot be avoided, but others are those of our own making.

I admit I am a tech lover. I crave for enough devices to use in my classroom. I want a new laptop so I can have something faster for writing and creating digital messages. I recently purchased the latest Galaxy phone not because by S5 was broken but because I was drooling for a new device. I was having so much fun getting familiar with the phone that every time my husband walked into the living room to talk to me I was distracted. I even caught myself swiping my screen in church. Shame on me.

I’m not alone in my obsession with my device. Did you see the video clip this weekend of the woman who was so focused on her phone that she fell down an eight foot construction hole?   https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2017/06/09/the-alarming-video-that-may-convince-you-to-never-ever-text-and-walk/?utm_term=.393a60e2deee

The State of Texas finally passed a law that addresses texting and driving. Yay! It’s about time! The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that every day in the United States, more than eight people are killed in crashes that involve a distracted driver. There is another casualty I’m sure they haven’t considered and I know they cannot pass a law to protect it–relationships. If we are going to be distracted by our devices we should expect to miss out on something really great and necessary, building relationships.

Remember when going out to eat involved  conversations? Now we can see people sitting around the table on their phones. Parents are bringing tablets to keep their young children occupied so they can enjoy their meals. Business associates spend meal time checking and answering messages. If you look closely you can see servers and cooks checking their devices as well.

I recently had a conversation with an employment coach who told me they had to remind their clients not to take their cell phones into a job interview. I thought it was interesting that it was necessary to give that advice. The coach said he had a client who didn’t follow his advice and checked his cell phone during an interview. Guess who didn’t get the job?

I’m issuing 3 challenges this week.

First: Count how many times a day you check your device at work and at home.

Second: Count the number of face-to-face conversations you have (personal and business).

If the device wins, maybe we need to revise our relationship with our device.

Third: Be intentional in placing the needs of others first. Resist the temptation to plug in when in the company of others.

I’m going to take the challenge myself because at the end of the day, I don’t want my husband to think my phone is more important than him. I don’t want my son and granddaughters to think I would rather be on my computer or phone more than spend time with them. I don’t want my only contact with my friends to be on social media and I certainly don’t want to be so distracted by my tech toys that I don’t spend time strengthening my relationship with my Creator.

Jesus teaches us in Mark 12:30 & 31, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, with all your strength AND you shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no greater commandment than these.”

If we follow Jesus’s teaching, we will gladly limit our time with our devices in favor of focusing on what matters most. Love. Let us not love with words only, but also with our deeds (1 John 3:18).

Let LOVE be the device we use to show our children they have our unconditional support.

Let LOVE be the device we use at work to be the most productive employee.

Let LOVE be the reason we make phone calls more than we text or “message” on social media.

Let LOVE be the reason for your hope knowing that the Lord loves you and desires to spend time with you.

  • Is your device the first thing you pick up in the morning and the last thing you use at night?
  • What are some steps you can take to focus on what matters most?

I’m Still Near

You’re not forgotten.
You’re not being ignored.
You’re still on my mind.
You’re still adored.

There is nothing you can do
No place you can go
That my love and mercy
Will cease to flow.

In case you get lost
Do not fear.
I will guide you back to Me
And make your pathway clear.

You are a beloved child of my heart,
Even when you’re under attack.
Though loneliness and troubles
Put weight on your back

I am still near.

Isaiah 5410
