Courageous Surrender

As I walk through this land
Guide me with Your powerful hand
Love the wounded, feed the hungry, shine the light
Share the truth and give the blind sight

Pray for and heal the sick
Let my forgiveness be quick

Through me let Your presence be known
And draw others to You by the Love You’ve shown.

I surrender all
Not just the parts that won’t be missed
I surrender all
Completely transform me until your purpose is accomplished.

John 15 5

Courageous Heart

I came to your door today
   I thought I'd try again.
To see if you would open up
   To let Me come in.

I knew you were on
  The other side
   I could hear you breathe
You touched the knob unable to decide.

All I want to do
Is share this gift I have
For you.

To love you through
   Your pain
  To give you hope
     again.

To wash away your sorrow
    To give you joy
   And hope to smile
     Today and tomorrow.

I will return another time
Maybe then you will open up to Me.
To let Me set you free.
To live, to love, to recieve My all.

Courageous Influence

She stood just outside the door of her mistress’s room. It wasn’t her intention to listen, but Naaman, captain of Aram’s army, was ranting on the other side of the door.

“God has elevated me and led me to many victories. Why doesn’t He take this wretched disease away from me? I might as well be dead. No one will want to follow a crippled captain. I’m ruined!” Naaman bellowed as his wife tried to comfort him.

The servant girl softly rapped on the door when the room had grown silent. Naaman yanked open the door and glared at the girl, “Well?”

“I have your dinner tray,” she whispered and entered the room as he pushed the door open for her to enter. Naaman backed into the room and watched as the girl placed the tray on the table across the room. He notice the girl whispering to his wife just before hurrying from the room.

“What was that all about?” Naaman asked his wife.

“What do you mean?” she responded.

“I saw the girl speaking to you. What was that about? She never speaks when I am in the room.”

“She thinks you should go see a prophet in Samaria. She says his name is Elisha.”

Naaman followed the advice of the servant girl and made arrangements to meet with Elisha. He reluctantly followed the prophet’s advice, but was healed of leprosy after following his unusual instructions.

The servant girl was brave. She wasn’t afraid to share her God with someone who could easily be considered her enemy. (2 Kings 5)

This story reminds me of the children of Israel who had embarked on possessing the Promised Land. They were to conquer the lands and influence the nations by demonstrating the power of their God. They were to teach and lead other nations to their God, not the other way around (Joshua 24).

We all are created to be an influence. Our God is to be envied. We are to shine so that others will see Him and want to become part of the Kingdom we possess. We are to take the Kingdom to the nations (Matthew 28). The nations aren’t just foreign places, but the nations include the places where we live, work, shop, and play.

The Kingdom within us.

We are instructed to be an attractive influence–a light that shines so bright that others will want to worship our God.

Courageous Exchange

It isn’t hard to struggle, but it takes courage to exchange the struggle for peace. Life is all about struggling and overcoming hard times. The challenge is to know that as we enter into a struggle, victory has already been provided. We exchange our need to find a solution or make the way happen for God’s promise to direct our steps and guide us to His plan.

He challenges us to exchange our all for His all.

My all for His all
Not just the big things
But those that seem small.

My all for His all
Not just the giants
But the tiniest nail in the wall.

My all for His all
Not just the mountain
But even the valley of dismal

My all for His all
Not just as the day begins
But through nightfall.

My all for His all
That is the challenge of His call
Seeking His Kingdom above ALL.

Matthew 6 33

Courage to Dream Out Loud

It’s one thing to dream a dream
It’s another to dream it out loud
To voice what you hope
To stand out in the crowd.

To tell the truth
And expose what’s wrong
To declare what’s right
With more than just a song.

To wave a dream like a banner
Rallying your fellow man
To make the world a better place
By passing along the dream hand in hand.

It’s one thing to dream a dream
It’s another to see it come true
In the lives of generations
Charged to follow through.

Dr. King your dream is still alive
We haven’t dropped the charge
We’re still working for the promised land
We’re uniting hand in hand
The color of our nation is changing day by day
Thank you for dreaming out loud
For passing along the courage to dream.

7 Things Courageous People Will Not Do

Deborah is our courageous hero today.

She didn’t use her gender as an excuse to avoid confrontation.  She didn’t let fear keep her from going to battle for her country. She boldly reminded Barak about God’s plan for his life.

Deborah is boldly telling us to watch, fight, pray, and praise our God for victory over our enemy.

See Judges 4 – 7.

Courage to Dream Again

January is the month for courage. It takes courage to do anything significant. It takes courage to start a family. It takes courage to start a business. It takes courage to follow your dreams. Believe it or not, we need courage to obey the Lord.

Joshua is our witness that it takes courage to try again after failure.

Joshua took a deep breath and slowly exhaled as he ran his fingers through his hair. The last thing he expected was to lose Achan and his family. It never occurred to him that someone would jeopardize their future for a few tokens. He clasped his hands behind his back and slowly made his way to his tent. “This is too hard,” he sighed as he rested on his mat. As he closed his eyes he whispered, “What’s next? It seems like we make a huge step forward only to get snatched back three.”

As Joshua began to stir from his sleep, he heard the voice of the Lord, “Don’t be afraid and don’t lose hope. I will help you and you will defeat Ai. Take the whole army with you and just like Jericho, you will win. This time all the spoils belong to you.” Joshua sat up straight as the Lord reminded him again to have courage.

Joshua could have stopped after the victory over Jericho, but God had promised to do more for the children of Israel. When Achan’s sin caused them to lose a battle with the nation of Ai, I can imagine Joshua wondered if he had missed it. “Didn’t God say we would possess the land of the nations across the Jordan? What happened to Your word, God? This is humiliating. What will You do, God for Your great name?” Joshua learned that Achan had disobeyed the Lords’ command not to take anything for personal use. Achan’s disobedience affected the whole nation.

I can imagine Joshua holding his breath as they set out to fight Ai again. Would be there another surprise? Would they win this time or turn back in shame again? Joshua obeyed God and led the army to victory over Ai. (See Joshua 7 & 8)

What is the Lord telling you to do? What are your dreams? Have you started fulfilling them or are you afraid you will make a mistake? Are you afraid that your past failure is an indication of your future attempts?

Take courage and do not lose hope. With God all things are possible. He created us to be victorious in His name.

I pray today that you will find the courage to start dreaming again and allow the Lord to lead you to the destination He has planned for you.
