A Stormy Dawn

Humid air stands still
Lightning flashes in the sky
Nudges me awake.

Your voice thunders clear
As the morning storm blows through
“You are one of My Beloved
Never forgotten”

Deuteronomy 31:6 The Voice (VOICE)

Be strong and brave, and don’t tremble in fear of them, because the Eternal your God is going with you. He’ll never fail you or abandon you!

Love Letter to God #15

Eternal One,

You are right
I need more insight.

My attitude
Caused me to elude

The desires of Your heart.
The words I spoke
Didn’t give hope.

My pantry is full
But my neighbor’s is empty.
My closet bulges with the latest fashion
But I respond to the needy without compassion.

My family rarely sees me
Because I am busy;
Seeking to please myself.

Oh, how I long to be warm again
By the rays of Your sunlight
So that I may be healed
And do as You have appealed.

Make me right in Your eyes.
I now realize
It is Your path that I need to follow
My way makes hearts hard and hollow.

O, Eternal One, where are You?
Take me back to the place
Where I first saw Your face.

Make me Yours again
So that I may live where You reign.

Totally Surrendered,

Your Beloved

Isaiah 58:9-11 (VOICE) Then when you do call out, “My God, Where are You?”
The Eternal One will answer, “I am here, I am here.
If you remove the yoke of oppression from the downtrodden among you,
stop accusing others, and do away with mean and inflammatory speech,
If you make sure that the hungry and oppressed have all that they need,
then your light will shine in the darkness,
And even your bleakest moments will be bright as a clear day. The Eternal One will never leave you;
He will lead you in the way that you should go.
When you feel dried up and worthless,
God will nourish you and give you strength.
And you will grow like a garden lovingly tended;
you will be like a spring whose water never runs out.

Six and Fifty

Dear Lord, what can I say

A personal new year arrived today

Seventy-seven degrees, summer breeze

Shaking crepe myrtle and mimosa leaves

Purple rose of sharon wave at me.

Such a blessing I can hear, smell, and see.

Thank you,

Your Beloved

Psalm 139:17-18 (NLT)
How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand!
And when I wake up,
You are still with me!

Five and Fifty Years

Five and fifty years
Blessings, trials, mountain tops
Valleys full of joy.

Should I count them all
I would fill page after page
With words and sketches
Illustrating Your presence
And favor over my life.

I met a 92 year old woman today who really touched my heart. She bragged about her age and the fact that should could still get around, she had good eyesight, she hears well, and she can still take care of herself. I asked her who does her nails, because they are very prettily manicured. She responded, “I do them myself. I can still do lots of things!” I want to be like Ms. Alice when I grow up!

My 56th birthday is Monday and I think I’m on track to catch up to Ms. Alice.

I spent most of the last week doing things I normally would not do.

  • I climbed a latter to pick peaches (I don’t do outdoor activities).
  • I taught my puppy to walk on a leash beside me and not run ahead of me (I usually leave pet care to the males in the family).
  • I helped paint a new church (I am sore all over).
  • I baked a peach pound cake (I would nerve put fruit in a pound cake!)
  • I learned the ins and outs of a literacy program at an elementary school (I’ve taught math for sixteen years.).
  • I worked outside in the yard of a perfect stranger (I am “allergic” to fresh air).
  • I displayed two books I’ve written at a newly opened coffee shop in my neighborhood (I’m not pushy).
  • I purchased and shelled a half bushel of peas (I had help from Granddaughter #4).
  • I canned fresh peas and peaches.

I have had lots of fun this week. I am looking forward to the next page in my life. 55 is ending with lots of interesting things and I believe 56 is going to be spectacular.

Love Letter to God #14

To My Beloved,

What can I say that You have not heard?

What words can describe Your great love?

How can I communicate

All that You have given,

All that You have shown?

Mere words cannot

Say it all.

So I

Your Beloved

Job 42:1 – 6 (NIV)

Then Job replied to theLord:

“I know that you can do all things;

no purpose of yours can be thwarted. You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’
Surely I spoke of things I did not understand,
things too wonderful for me to know.

 “You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak;

    I will question you,
and you shall answer me.’ My ears had heard of you
but now my eyes have seen you.
 Therefore I despise myself
and repent in dust and ashes.”

Oh My Lord,

There was a sound.
It was loud, proud, and unbowed
That came from my lips.

It was all about me
What I could do, should do, would do
I left You out.

But You gently reminded me
That You are the One, the Sun, and none
Can compare to You.

Your love never fails
And we can trust, that You are just, and we must
Know You and Your ways.

You have a plan
To make things right, give us light, and You delight
When we seek to understand You.

That all our hope is found
With you, who are true, and will renew
Our strength.

Thank You Mighty One,

Your Beloved

Love Letter to God #12

Most High Lord,

I tried to do it on my own
I taught it to my children, too.
We tried to save ourselves
And steal the glory from You.

We forced Your Word
To the back of our minds.
We ran after fame and fortune
And comfort, we fell right in line

With greed and sin
With corruption and lust.
We forgot Your Way
And that You are just.

I don’t want to wait
Until my days are at an end
To come to myself
And to fully comprehend,

I am not my own.
I was bought with a price.
You are my Savior and protection
You beam the sacrifice.

I can wait no longer
I have to return
To the safety of Your arms.
To the peace I have desperately yearned.

I’m coming to you now
I’m bringing my family along
We are full of shame and regret
But it’s with You we belong.

Show us how to remain
How to submit.
Give us the path to take
We will walk in it.

Because our only hope is in you,

Your Humble Beloved

Jeremiah 30:19-21 (NIRV)

People of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you won’t weep anymore. When you cry out to the Lord for help, he will have mercy on you. As soon as he hears you, he’ll answer you. He might treat you like prisoners. You might eat the bread of trouble. You might drink the water of suffering. But he will be your Teacher. He won’t hide himself anymore. You will see him with your own eyes.  You will hear your Teacher’s voice behind you. You will hear it whether you turn to the right or the left. It will say, “Here is the path I want you to take. So walk on it.”

Love Letter to God #11

My Dearest Lord,

My heart was heavy.

I just couldn’t find my way.

I froze in the middle of the storm.

The clouds, wind, and thunder all seemed to say,

“You can’t.

He won’t.

Stop hoping and trusting

Because you don’t

Deserve to win.

You’re bound to fail.

You are lost

And you won’t prevail.”

But suddenly, it began to rain!

The first drop reminded me

Of all You’ve done before,

Of every victory.

Then more drops began to fall

And my heart lifted a little more.

You whispered my name

And my spirit began to soar!

And when the sun began to shine

All of those crazy thoughts fled my mind.

Oh, Lover of my soul,

You do this every time.

I know I’m here for Your glory

And the fear and failure are not our story.

Ours is a story of love, power, peace, joy, and grace

Thank you for the rain,

Your Beloved

Jeremiah 31:3 – 4 (NLT) Long ago the Lord said to Israel:“I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself. I will rebuild you, my virgin Israel. You will again be happy and dance merrily with your tambourines.
